Reflection:Crucible Essay and Lizzy II
The Crucible essay was about John Proctor, a main character in the play. In my essay I compared John to a rope because I feel that a rope symbolizes John. To start off i made a list of the similarities and differences in the rope and John and from there i wrote my essay. The main similarity was strength. Throughout the play Johns strength stood out to me so when i was told to choose something that symbolizes John I chose the rope. This was a good piece to use similes and metaphors to compare the character and his symbol.
At the beginning of the year we had to write a memoir so I chose to write about our best friend Lizzy and her visit this summer. I really enjoyed writing this piece. I liked the fact that we could choose what we wanted to write about and you got to reflect about a memory. In my essay i basically just told all about Lizzy's visit and what we did everyday. This is by far my favorite piece we have had to write.
So far in this class I have learned a lot about writing. I have learned how to use similes and meataphors in a paper and making them connect to my topicl. I have also learned about the brushstrokes or writing, and i was able to use this when writing my memoir. By writing the Crucible essay i learned how to take and everyday object and figure out a way it symbolizes characters we read about. All of these things have really helped me so far in this class.
Part 2:
When I went back and revised these pieces I added in more details and fixed places to make the paper flow better. In my Crucible essay i went back and made my comparisons more elaborate by explaining more about how a rope symbolizes John. In my memoir i went back and fixed the rough spots in the paper such as grammer errors and I added in details that i left out. Revising these pieces taught me how to make my papers better and ways to fix little things without having to change everything.
Part 3:
I think the most important things I have learned from writing these essays is that you have to have fun when writing and be really creative. Not only that but making good comparisons by using similes and metaphors helps make a paper better.
Lizzy II!
On August 12 2006 my best friend Lizzy moved away. We have known each other since we were one and we have been best friends ever since. We were always there for each other through the good times and the bad and its still the same way today even though we live miles apart. Sine she moved we have only seen each other twice but the last time she was here was the best.
Lizzy and her sister drove down this summer on July 31 to stay for about a week. The first few nights she was here she stayed at my house because her dad who lives on Lake Keowee was out of town. She came in time to eat dinner with my family that night and after we ate our best friends Cauley, Jordan, and Cat came over for the night! All five of us have been best friends forever ago so it was a lot of fun for us to all be together again with Lizzy. We made our favorite desert, "Honey bun Cake" and we stayed up late talking, watching movies, and playing cards. Wednesday we all went to Jordan's house to hang out and lay out by her pool. That night we went to the mall to shop and eat dinner. After that we took everyone home and me and Lizzy came back to my house for the night.
Thursday me, Cat, Jordan, and Lizzy got to go to the lake with Cat's family. This was one of the best things we did that week. Me, Jordan, and Lizzy went through seventeen out of twenty four popsicles in a box that night. Mr Allen also grilled hamburgers for us and they were amazing. It was great being at the lake and having Lizzy there because going to Cats lake house has always been one of our favorite things for all of us to do.
Unfortunately Lizzy had to pack up Saturday morning and head to her dads house where her and her sister would stay till they had to head back to Ohio. So Friday night we all went out to dinner at Chilis for an early birthday dinner for Jordan since her birthday was the next week. We had a lot of fun there talking and eating like the good old days. After dinner Jordan had to leave so me, Cat, Cauley, and Lizzy went back to Cats house to hang out. Later on our friend Alex Hand came over and he took all of us to Sonic for ice cream. When we got back to Cats Gaston and Jaren came over and we all played cards. When the night ended we were all sad because we thought we wouldn't get to see Lizzy again before she went back to Ohio.
On Sunday Lizzy called and invited me and Cauley to come over to her dads house on Lake Keowee for the day on Monday. So after volleyball Lizzy and her dad picked me and Cauley up and we headed to the lake. When we got there we changed and went straight down to the boat and we stayed out on the lake all day. Later on we picked up Lizzy's step sister and her friend and we went to the "Tiki Hut" on the lake for a snack. After that we swam around for a while and then we went back to the house. We hung out for a while then a lot of Lizzy's step family came over and we grilled out. We had a lot of fun but it was sad knowing it was Lizzy's last night here. So we said our goodbyes and Lizzy and her dad took us back to Anderson.
So the week Lizzy was here was probably one of the best weeks of my summer. Next time we plan to take a big trip and visit her in Ohio. We already miss her and we can't wait to see her again. But I'm glad we got to spend so much time with her when she was here, it made the summer ten times better!

Crucible Essay
What does a rope symbolize to you? After reading the Crucible a robe to me is a symbol of John Proctor. When looking at the characteristics of a rope I realize that there are several similarities between the rope and John Proctor.
John Proctor is a very strong character throughout the whole play. He stands firm for what he believes in and tries to always do whats right. At the beginning of the play we find out that John had an affair with Abigail Williams. He is then shunned for this but repents and stays strong. He realizes what he has done is wrong but moves on with his life and hopes he is forgiven. His wife is a very strong lady to forgive him because today affairs lead to divorce and after three long months everything was worked out between them. So this is where the similarity of a rope comes in because a rope is also strong.
When Johns wife Elizabeth is taken to court because she was accused of being a witch John is strong and supports her in court. He knows that only the truth shall be told in court so he is extremely truthful with Juge Danforth. He knows his wife is not really a witch but he keeps calm and stays strong and by doing this Danforth believes him and everything is settled. A rope is also used for support. A rope supports things be holding them up and attaching things together.
In Act IV John is told he has to sign his confession or he will be hung. At this point you would think John would break down and unravel. He begins signing the confession and then hands it to Danforth. As he is handing it to him he grabs it back and rips it up. By this time his wife is very upset because she realizes his life is about to end. When John does this he says,It is my name, i gave you my soul, let me keep my name!" So John would rather sacrafice his life than ruin his name because of this confession because he knows if he signs it he will be living a lie. Before they take John away he hugs his wife and says his goodbyes then he is taken to be hung. Like a rope John is hard to break down and unlike a rope John cannot be unraveled but a rope can. This is why John is my favorite character. I love how he is so strong and so firm in what he believes in. It inspires me to be strong and stay firm!
